Roofing FAQ
Whether you're wondering if insurance will cover your roof, what happens if they deny your claim, or how solar can actually help pay for a new roof — we've got the straight answers below.
Insurance Claims
Yes — and more homeowners qualify than you'd think. Here's how it works.
In most cases, yes. Homeowner's insurance typically covers roof damage caused by storms, hail, wind, and fallen debris. The key is that the damage must be from a covered event — not purely cosmetic or from lack of maintenance. That's why a professional inspection is so important: we know exactly what insurers look for and how to document it correctly.
Insurance typically covers damage from:
Even damage you can't see from the ground often qualifies. Our inspectors climb your roof and check every detail.
This is the #1 concern we hear. In most states, a single weather-related claim does not raise your premium. Roof claims caused by storms, hail, or wind are considered "acts of nature" — not negligence on your part. Insurance companies expect these claims. That said, filing multiple claims in a short window can have an impact, so we always recommend discussing with your provider if you're concerned.
If your claim is approved, you'll typically only owe your deductible (usually $1,000 – $2,500 depending on your policy). Many homeowners effectively pay nothing beyond that. The inspection itself is always free, and we don't charge you if the claim doesn't go through.
After we file the claim, the insurance company typically sends an adjuster within 1–2 weeks. From approval to roof installation is usually 2–4 weeks. The entire process from inspection to new roof is typically 4–8 weeks. We keep you updated at every step.
It's helpful but not required. We can inspect the exterior of your roof without you being home. If we need to check the attic or interior, we'll schedule a time that works for you.
If Insurance Says No
A denied claim doesn't mean you're stuck with an old roof. There are two paths forward.
Solar + Roofing
This is the part most homeowners don't know about. Here's how it works.
When you go solar with a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), the solar company installs panels on your roof and you buy the power they produce at a lower rate than your utility. Because the solar company needs a good roof for the panels, they have an incentive to include the roof replacement in the project.
This means the cost of your new roof gets rolled into the solar project — and since a PPA involves no loan and no upfront cost, you effectively get a new roof without paying for it out of pocket.
No catch. You're simply bundling two services together: a new roof and solar panels. The solar company covers the roof cost as part of the project because they need a solid roof for the panels to sit on for 25+ years. You get cheaper energy and a new roof. It's a win for both sides.
No. If your insurance covers the roof, you can get it replaced through insurance alone — no solar required. The PPA-funded roof option is specifically for homeowners whose insurance claim is denied or who don't have sufficient coverage. It's a backup plan, not a requirement.
Great — then you just go solar. We inspect your roof condition as part of the solar review process. If your roof is in good shape, panels go right on top. No roof work needed. We only recommend a reroof when it's genuinely necessary.
Absolutely. Our free roof inspection is available to every homeowner regardless of whether you're interested in solar. We'll inspect your roof, document any damage, and help you file an insurance claim if your roof qualifies. No strings attached.
The Inspection
Here's exactly what to expect. No surprises.
A certified inspector arrives at a time that works for you. The inspection takes about 30 minutes.
Photos, measurements, and detailed notes of any damage. This becomes your insurance claim evidence.
You'll know if your roof qualifies for insurance, if solar PPA can help, or if your roof is actually in good shape.
Then we'll tell you. We're not going to manufacture damage or push unnecessary work. If your roof is in good condition, that's good news. You'll know your home is protected and you can plan ahead if you want solar in the future.
We use high-quality architectural shingles from trusted manufacturers with full warranties. The specific brand and style will match your home and meet your insurance company's requirements. We'll discuss all options before any work begins.
We handle everything. Inspection, documentation, insurance filing, contractor coordination, and installation. You don't need to call anyone else. If you're also going solar, we coordinate the roof and solar installation together so there's one team, one timeline, and one point of contact.
Yes, it's genuinely free. We earn our revenue when we complete a roofing project — either through insurance or as part of a solar + roof bundle. If your roof doesn't qualify for anything, you owe us nothing. We'd rather build trust with honest answers than push a deal that doesn't make sense.
